With the Digital India initiative, I must say Seafarers are going to benefit more. We no longer have to stand in queue for hours and days outside MMD to get our job done.
I joined my first ship in the year 2009 and just prior to that my CDC was issued in late 2008. Over a period of 10 years, my old CDC has seen many rough seas. After a decade of sailing, it’s time for me to extend the validity of my CDC, in order to sail further. Over a period of time, our own DG shipping has moved from offline clunky operation towards a smoother and more stable online operation for simpler tasks. Most of us still are still in a dilemma of how to perform the necessary actions on the online portal of the DG shipping website. I have seen the transition of DG shipping from offline to the online world, most of the time the servers used to be down when there was sudden traffic during bookings of exams, new applications for COC, or the application for CDC.
Before applying for any new CDC application one must decide between the following
Do I want to extend the validity of my CDC? Or Do I need to replace my old CDC?
Renewal and Replacement, the words themselves are self-explanatory. If your CDC is damaged/torn/mutilated/pages exhausted then you will need to apply for CDC replacement (As you need a new CDC booklet). Even in case of loss of your old CDC, you will have to apply for CDC replacement.

A Computer with Internet Access. Note:- If you using any newer windows machine then chances are you cannot access the DG profile on your machine. To install Mozilla Firefox for your desktop/laptop. If you planning to apply from mobile install Mozilla Firefox for Android. Firefox for iOS doesn’t work for DG profile updating.
Documents required to be uploaded?
1 Scan copy of the signed online application 2 Passport size (3.5 cm X 3.5 cm) photograph with clear white background face-covering 70% 3 Scanned signature of seafarer 4 Self-attested scanned copy of CDC(first and last two pages) 5 Proof of STCW Familiarisation Courses (all Certificates in a single pdf file) 6 Self-attested scan copy of proof of Indian citizenship document (Passport or any other document)
Indian CDC Replacement Procedure Step by Step:
Step 1: Go to DG shipping > Egovernance page
Head over to DG shipping website then to E-governance and then log in to your DG profile using your INDOS number and password.
Step 2: Login using your INDOS No.
Login to your profile using your login credentials. INDOS number as your User id and your password.
Step 3: Select CDC Management & COC as Cook
In the Centre column all the links you will notice a link CDC Management & COC as cook click on it to go to the application page.
Step 4: Select CDC Replacement Option.
To the top left, you will notice 2 Options. 1) Submit 2) Others Click on Submit to view various options related to CDC Application. Select Option no 4 as shown in the above image to apply for Indian CDC Replacement.
Step 5: Check and Update your Personal Details as shown
After selecting the CDC replacement application in Step no 4 you will be redirected to this page where you will see all your Personal Details. Here Select the Office as shown in the image where you want to apply the CDC replacement. Check and verify other details which are already pre-filled in the form. If your pre-filled data is not proper you may have to apply for Correction in Seafarers. Profile before proceeding to this application. Once all the data is checked click on Continue
Step 6: Fill up your Address Details
Now in this tab, you will be able to see the Address Details provided by you. These details are already pre-filled if not then you will have to manually add the Address details. Please keep in mind the address details provided by you is where your CDC will be despatched after the application is approved. If the Address details are not proper the CDC may not reach your place. Click Continue after Checking and Verifying the Address Details.
Step 7: Update Next of Kin Details
Now in this tab, you will be able to see the Next of Kin Details provided by you. These details are already pre-filled if not then you will have to manually add the Next Of Kin details. Click on Continue after checking and verifying the details.
Step 8: Update your Course Details
Here in this tab, you will see the STCW course details. All previous course data will be already preloaded. Update all the course data with the latest courses. Use refresher course data for updating if in case your main course validity has expired. Once updated proceed to the next step by clicking continue.
Step 9: Instructions for filling form and Fee details
In this tab, the Fee amount required will be mentioned. Above the fee details, further instructionsin red are given above. Just go through them once. They describe the steps to be followed after the payment of fees. Click on continue to proceed to next step
Step 10: List of Documents to be uploaded
This tab will tell you the documents required to upload for your application. Do not forget to click the I Agree checkbox as highlighted in the photo. Before Generating the Application No. you can navigate to individual tabs to check and verify the previously filled application form. Then click Generate Application No.
Step 11: Pay fees and Check Application Status
After Generating the Application Number, you are directed to make payment. If you are not making the payment right away then you can access the payment option by clicking the Others option as shown in the image to the top left besides the Submit option. Now pay the fees and then proceed as follows.
Step 12: Check Application Status Page
Once you make the payment, the application status page will show the payment reference number. After that to the extreme right column, you will be asked to upload the documents mentioned previously.
Step 13: Upload Documents as requested
After the payment of the fees, you will be presented with the option to upload documents. Every document must be uploaded in the proper row as mentioned. If you are going to scan documents with Cam Scanner App on mobile I will suggest you a better optionSwiftScan App from the PlayStore or from the Apple App Store. Cam Scanner’s basic versionleaves a watermark in the scanned document while SwiftScanApp doesn’t leave any watermark. Other Free apps for scanning and converting to pdf are Microsoft Lens – PDF Scanner get it from Play Store here or Apple App Store here.
Step 14: Prepare Envelope to Dispatch Old CDC and Application Form
After uploading prepare an Envelopewith your signed application form & with your old CDC. Send the envelope by courier or post to Shipping Masters Office where you applied it for. Step 15: Check Application Status for Remarks
Check your Application Status, link is visible after uploading documents, as shown in the above image after dispatching your Envelope to the shipping master’s office. Once your application is received they will start processing your documents. If any documents are missing or they require additional information then DG shipping will contact you and may ask you a query. You will have to respond to that query as early as possible. They may even contact you over the phone. The Query, if raised, by DG shipping is visible on the remarks section of your Application Status page. Keep checking the Application status after 4-5 working days, all the updates will be available there. Once approved the Despatch details will be visible with tracking info for Speed post in the remarks section of Application Status.

Which STCW courses to fill up?
STCW courses need to be updated while filling up the form. As in Step 7 the old details of the Courses will already be present. It is best to update these old courses with valid refresher training. Just select the proper course from the drop-down and fill up all the details. Can I collect my CDC from MMD?
Yes, there is an option to collect your CDC from MMD or DG shipping office but for that, you will have to contact DG shipping over the phone or over email and need to get more information about the same issue.u003cbru003eYou can also insist your company and they may expedite your CDC replacement process in case of emergency joining.
